Job description
- The Design Engineer is responsible for the overall design of
the heat exchanger per customer order, and any related support structure
furnished by Alfa Laval, Inc.The design will include calculations to
verify the unit design to ASME Codes and customer criteria, associated
G/A and manufacturing prints, BOM’s, and Document Control records.This
person will direct the Designer in the design requirements for the
customer order.The Design Engineer will work with the Project Manager
and other Contract Order Team members to meet the contract order
requirements, and make continuous improvements in the tools and
procedures used by the Engineering Dept. and Contract Order Team.
- Attend and participate in internal kick-off meetings with the Contract Order Team.
- Attend and participate in project meetings and gate reviews.
- Perform required work to meet project milestones.
- Validate accuracy of the CAS Design.
- Responsible for overall design, prints, BOM’s, Shop Packages, and calculations of project.
- Direct Designers in design requirements for projects / orders.
- Review and approve all design documents created by Designer.
- Attend and participate in Roll-out (manufacturing start-up) project meetings.
- Responds to questions from Purchasing, Quality, and Production concerning design req’ts.
- Education (degree or years) and/or Certification/Registration:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical), or PE Certification with at least 1 yr. Pressure Vessel design experience.
- Type and Length of Experience:
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes Desired in Candidate:
- ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code knowledge, use, and calculations.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook
- CAD Software – AutoCad, Solidworks
- Engineering software - Compress, PV Elite
- MRP/ ERP systems
- Physical Requirements (lifting, climbing, standing, equipment use):
- Office environment with frequent attendance on the shop floor.
- Environmental Factors (hazardous materials, work location, work surfaces, exposure):
- Safety equipment required when present on the shop floor – footwear, hearing, eyewear.
- Occasional travel required to visit customers, manufacturing facilities, or sales company.
